Prez Sez - What a Great Kickoff Meeting!

4.1.2024

Thanks to everyone that came to the first general membership meeting on March 27th at Five Oaks, it was a great time and a BIG crowd! The members liked the venue as well as the food from Tony’s Catering.

One of the highlights of the evening was when we had 5 Sioux Falls Fire Dept. paramedics, the Sioux Falls Fire Chief and one of the registered nurses that were at the scene on January 17th when Ron Kersbergen collapsed at Look’s Market. Ron and Cindy were at the meeting as well along with Jeff Gifford, the SFCC Secretary, who started CPR on Ron immediately that night. The Fire Dept. gave Jeff Gifford their Life Saving Award and honored nurse Melissa Lasokowski. Those standing up front received a thunderous standing ovation twice! We appreciate those that attended as well as KDLT TV.

As many of you may know, we are losing Jeff and Christina Watkins due to their job transfers to Des Moines, Iowa. We will miss them and wish them well. Jeff made the announcement to the general membership that Hailey Johnke was elected by the Board to replace him as the Vice-President for the balance of 2024. Goodbye and good luck to Jeff and Christina, and welcome to Hailey!

This is going to be a BUSY year.  All club members should have received an email on 4.2.24 that included the full slate of events for 2024, which included a pdf file for members to print and save if desired.  Remember, we also have a current Events Calendar on our website, www.siouxfallscorvetteclub.com.  There is a great variety of things to do and places to go! We hope you can attend as many as possible. Mike Skiles, our Drive and Dine chairman, has done a great job as always and please thank him when you see him. And no, Mike won’t be paying for your gas or meals.

Our closest upcoming event is the Pancake Palooza at the Larchwood Gym in Larchwood, Iowa on Saturday, April 6th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. This is a pediatric cancer fundraiser for Mike and Colleen Skiles 15-month old great-grandson, Ky Lynott. Ky is currently hospitalized in Denver for treatment. Please attend.

The next event is the Dance/Concert at El Riad Shrine on April 19th for our charity, American Legion Post 15. Contact Past President Dave Rowe for tickets. His cell is 605-321-7823.

The next general membership meeting is Wednesday, April 24th at the Five Oaks Events Center.

Following that we will be meeting at Jerry’s Chevrolet Center on April 27th at 10:00 a.m. Jerry personally wants to make a presentation. At 11:00 a.m. we will depart for Waddy’s in Hudson for a light lunch. Then we will be driving to the 1015 Steak Company in Sibley, Iowa for a 4:00 Happy Hour and a 5:00 steak dinner.

But wait, there’s more!  Do not forget the Spring Rally on May 5th. Be at Jerry’s in Beresford for Rally instructions. This is always a great time!

One final request, Doc Walker and Mike Skiles ask that if you are planning on attending the Drive & Dine to the National Music Museum in Vermillion on Saturday, June 22, to please text or email Doc at  605-212-6539 (preferred) or email me dpwalker67@gmail.com. Doc and Mike are working with USD to arrange for parking and need a headcount for the event.  This event will start at 9:30 AM with brunch at Bert’s in Beresford with the National Music Museum visit scheduled from 12:00-2:00 pm.  This is one of the most impressive collections of musical instruments in the world and we hope you can take this event in with us.

Save the wave!
