Come for the Car ...

We’ve all heard it, most of us have said it, “I joined for the car, I stayed for the people”.  As we move into the fall, hopefully all of you can relate to that expression.  We are all Corvette enthusiasts--it’s why we have the car, it’s what brought us to the club.  But it’s more than that.  It’s the experiences we create together, with our cars,

with each other.  We’ve had a jammed packed calendar this year as a club, and I know many of you also enjoy drives (locally and cross country), car shows, and track events outside of the club.  Each of us have different expectations of the club and through the diversity of programming this year, all of you should have been able to have a great time at many of our events.

Although it is September, we still have many opportunities to keep the wheels turning and the stories coming, including:

Sept. 15           Drive & Dine to Lake Time Steakhouse in Canistota

Sept. 26           Drive & Dine to Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls

Sept. 30           General membership meeting at The Social

Oct. 11             Lamb roast and membership meeting at Abdulah’s shop

Oct. 15-20       Extended Drive & Dine to Redwing, MN & Galena, IL

Nov. 14            Annual Banquet at The Social

Fall is also the time where we invite you to consider serving on our Board of Directors.  This year we have opportunities to serve in the following positions:

  • Vice President – Membership Director (Tom Matthys will be moving into the role of President)

  • Treasurer – (Elaine has announced her retirement from the position after 4 years of service!  Thank you Elaine!)

  • Spring Rally – (Dave & Jane, along with Paul & Lori, will be taking a break after several years of service.  Thank you Dave, Jane, Paul & Lori!)

  • Social Media – (originally part of the Editor’s role, Mike Hardy has supported the FaceBook engagement for the past 4 years and will be handing it off)

If you’d be interested in learning more about these positions and serving on the Board, simply reach out to any Board member.  There is no better way to meet great people and help guide this amazing club into the future.  We will vote on the 2027 slate of officers at the annual banquet in November.

Speaking of the annual banquet, it is scheduled for Saturday, November 14.  Tony’s Catering will once again be providing us with a delicious prime rib OR pork chop dinner, all compliments of the SFCC!  If you plan to attend, which we hope you do, please RSVP to Treasurer Elaine Robinson by sending her a check for $30.00/person along with your choice of entrée.  When you arrive to the banquet you will be given your check back.  If you fail to come to the banquet, we will cash the check as the club will still be obligated to Tony’s for the meal.  Checks can be brought to the Sept. 30 meeting, the Oct. 11 lamb roast, or simply mail them to Elaine at PO Box 994, Mitchell, SD  57301.

Lastly, 2027 membership renewals are due by the banquet as well.  At the most recent Board meeting the 2027 dues were set at $140/couple or $115/single.  We have a large number of Jerry’s members in 2026 that were provided with a complimentary 2026 membership to get to know our club.  We hope you’ve had a great time with us and took advantage of the many opportunities to experience all the club has to offer.  We’d love to have you remain a part of the club, so please consider staying with us as a dues-paying member. The complementary membership will expire on 12/31/26.  Similar to the banquet deposit, simply get a check to Elaine at any meeting, at the banquet, or drop it in the mail.

The big Corvette story of the month for August was Bowling Green started the official production of the 721 hp 2027 Grand Sport X.  This wide body hybrid model pairs the electric torque of the E-Ray with the 525 hp V8, making it a focal point for the C8 lineup. I’m looking forward to having one of these beauties in the Club – who’s will it be?

Save the wave!
