It's Coming.....
Just another month or two and we will start to see signs of spring that are indisputable.
Potholes big enough to lose a small car in, news about the upcoming Masters Golf Tournament,
but most notable, the return of America’s Sportscar to the streets of our town!
However you have been spending your winter I hope you’ve found a good car TV show to
watch, a car show to attend, a few interesting listings for Corvette’s on-line, anything to keep
the juices flowing that make the Corvette such an exciting car and lifestyle to enjoy. Arizona
has treated Barb and I well with our first full season here and I hope you have found some of
the photos I’ve shared via the SFCC Facebook page interesting. There are literally several car
shows each week so a person could do nothing but go to car shows down here if that’s your
thing. The Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale is always a spectacular event with 1,000’s of
cars and prices going from $7,700 to nearly $3 million!

This year at the auction Chevrolet donated a very special 2026, 1250 hp, ZR1X, Corvette that does the quarter mile in 8.6 seconds at just under 160 mph! This one-of-one car was hand painted in satin steel, with a Stars & Steel stripe package, a special package meant to honor America’s 250th birthday, it was stunning. The car was specifically done to honor the memory of the 25th anniversary of 9-11. General Motors donated the car to the auction with proceeds going to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Tunnels to Towers mission is supporting America’s heroes—first responders, veterans, and their families—through programs that provide mortgage-free homes, build specially-adapted smart homes for the catastrophically injured, and eradicate veteran homelessness. The final sales price, $2.6 MILLION! Just for fun I compiled a list of most of the Corvettes that went through the auction along with their sales price and have included it with the mailing of this Prez Sez newsletter. I hope you enjoy.
On to club news. February will bring 2 SFCC events for our members to enjoy, both taking place
on Sunday, February 15. The first is a movie matinee at the Dell’s Theatre in Dell Rapids
followed by a meal and social at Pizza Ranch. The movie will be a new release titled “Solo Mio”,
starring Kevin James. It’s a comedy-romance that will send you home with a few laughs and a
warm message. The movie start time will be 2 PM, tickets are $6.00 and concessions are
reasonably priced. The Dells Theatre is a beautifully restored 1938 art-deco theater. The
second event that day will be for our snowbirds and traveling members with a social hosted by
Harold and Joyce VanDerWilt at their home in Mesa, AZ, and assisted by Barb and Mike Hardy.
A couple other notable events include:
1. Registration is now open for the 55 th Annual Black Hills Corvette Classic – go to
www.blackhillscorvetteclassic.com to register.
2. Sunday, March 1, chili feed in Larchwood – check our website for more details.
3. National Council of Corvette Clubs first meeting of the year on Feb 20 and 21 in St.
Louis. Registrations are also open for their convention held June 20-26 in Syracuse, NY.
For more info go to www.corvettesnccc.org..
4. SFCC first general membership meeting of the year on Wednesday, March 25 – check
the website for more details. Location will again be at The Social, 301 S. Thompson Ave,
Sioux Falls. Apps at 6:30 pm, meeting at 7:00 pm.
5. Saturday, March 28, a Drive & Dine to Mitchel for TWO garage tours – a must see!
Speaking of the BHCC, word is getting out that Hot Summer Nights MAY be moving back
downtown. I can confirm that we are in conversations with many of the stakeholders
downtown that MAY allow for this great summer event to return to iconic downtown Sioux
Falls. A huge shout out to Barry Konken for leading these efforts supported by the Board of
Directors. More info coming in the future. Recall that the club has been working to reduce the
cost and effort that the BHCC requires of it, which is part of why the Holiday Inn now
coordinates and plans many of the events and registration. The Club continued to provide
support for the activities in Beresford and Sioux Falls including registration, and Hot Summer
Nights. Our goal is to create an event where our club members can enjoy the BHCC and not be

expected to work it, and that remains our goal. That said, there will always been a need for some member assistance in making the BHCC the great event we’ve all come to thoroughly enjoy. More details will be coming. It is America’s 250th birthday and we have many great ideas floating around to help the BHCC join in the celebration.
I promised last month in the Prez Sez not to get to long but it appears I’ve failed at brevity for
the sake of keeping you informed.

Until next time, SAVE THE WAVE!
