DRIVE & DINES for September & October

September 18, Calico Skies Winery

Our September Drive & Dine will be a relaxing afternoon at Calico Skies Winery near Canton. You’ll have the option of indoor or outdoor seating, enjoy some local wine, outstanding wood roasted pizza, live music, great scenery, and know that you are supporting a young entrepreneurial couple’s effort to bring a bit of Sonoma Valley to the Midwest.

  • Meet at Dawley Farms theater parking lot at 12:30. Leave at 1:00

  • Caravan or meet the group at Calico Skies (2368 Able Blvd, Inwood, IA)

  • There is about 1/8 mile of gravel, so your choice on Vette or SUV. We will go rain or shine, so you decide on the vehicle you drive.

  • Outdoor seating is limited so bring lawn chairs.

  • This is a great opportunity to get to know fellow SFCC members better.

October 9, Blind Butcher Brewery

You wouldn’t want to miss this Drive & Dine!! Why?? Because it includes a Corvette show, hopefully some brilliant fall colors, drone photos, enjoy some local craft beers, a free meal, and the opportunity to make a contribution to the University of Iowa Institute for Vision Research.

Here’s what we have planned for you. The event will be held at the Blind Butcher Brewing about a 30-minute drive from Sioux Falls. (2167 Buchanan Ave. Inwood, IA 51240) The attached photo shows the grassy area along the driveway that will be lined with Corvettes with hopefully the fall colors in the background for some nice drone photos. Plan to arrive about 2 PM and we’ll take the photos between 3 and 3:30.

The free meal will be provided by Abdulah Delibasic, a SFCC member who immigrated from Bosnia several years ago and wants to show his appreciation for living in the best country in the world. He will be roasting a whole lamb over an open pit rotisserie which is the traditional meal served at Bosnian weddings etc. The meal will include dinner rolls and salads in addition to Chicken Alfredo for those who have less adventurous taste buds. Take the time to visit with Abdulah while he’s cooking, he’s an interesting individual and is happy to share his appreciation for living in the US.

The Blind Butcher brews and serves several local craft beers in addition to serving mixed drinks and wine and donates all tips to the University of Iowa Institute for Vision Research. We may have Rob, the owner, tell us more about their mission. If you want to make a tax deductible free will donation, bring a check blank and you will receive the tax-deductible form from U of I.

In Summary

  • 2-2;30 pm arrive and park your car, have a beer, visit with Abdulah, socialize indoors or outdoors.

  • 3-3:30 Drone photos if you want to be by your car. Lots of time to take your own photos maybe to use on your Christmas card. We’ll see if we can reserve a spot for individual photos with a nice background.

  • 4:30 Meal will be served

  • 6:00 Head home
