The University of Okoboji Corvette Club will be having their “Vettes in the Park” event on August 10^th-12^th, 2012.

This year will feature the C2s as “Special Display” Corvettes as well as 2 AC Cobra’s. Todd Gifford will speak on the history of the AC Cobra and the mid-year Corvettes racing during the 60s. There will also be auto cross, a tour of a private car museum, car show, banquet and music.

SFCC General Meeting 4-25-12

The regular General Membership Meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Sgt. At Arms, Arnie Koopman.

President: John Pesicka, introduced 3 new members to the club.

Vice President: Jim mentioned we now have 168 members. He also asked anyone interested in going to the Redlin Museum on the 19^th of May to stop and sign up, they will need a count for the supper. He also mentioned that Chris Uthe is planning a golf event in Madsion in June.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes are published on the website and on file with Mick the secretary.

Treasurer’s Report: All information is on file with Mike B., if you have any questions contact Mike, or come to the next Board meeting. All are welcome at the Board meetings.

New Members/Guests: 3 attending tonight’s meeting.

Historian: No Report.

BHCC: Ryan & Denise gave out some extra brochures to anyone that wanted to pass them out to some friends that may be interested in going to the Classic. They also mentioned they are still in need of some BHCC Event chairman for the Casino Crawl, Riddles Rock and Roll Party, and Drag races.

Break & 50 /50 tickets will be sold by Arnie K., Sgt. At Arms.

Old Business: Dusty Miller was excited to share that they had 22 people show up for the Spring Highway Clean-Up! He thanked all that helped and said they enjoyed the Pizza and drinks after the clean-up.

New Business: Dave Burns gave an up-date on the new trailer the club purchased for merchandise. He said it has all new tires, and he will be picking it up in May now. Glenn Rapp had some brochures to pass out with the up coming events at Thunder Valley near Marion, SD.

Chips: If there are any changes in address etc. let Cheryl know. Also reminded everyone that ad’s are available on the web-site. $50.00 for a small ad and $100.00 for a large ad. Deadline to put information in the chips is May 23^rd.

Buzz Book: No report

50/50 drawing: Winners where Doc. Walker and Cliff Harms.

NCCC/Racing: Glen mentioned the first auto-cross will be on May 18^th at the Sioux Empire Fair grounds. Set up will be at 3:00 PM. will go until 8:00 PM. All are welcome, come enjoy your driving skills! He will bring sign up sheets to the May Club Meeting, for anyone interested in helping for the auto cross on Wed. July 18^th and Friday July 20^th, for the BHCC.

Spring Car Show: Tom said it will be on Sun. June 3^rd, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. At Grand Falls Casino Resort. This year it will feature Corvettes and Camros. He also invited everyone interested to attend the drive and dine which is put on every Wed. night by the Siouxland Car Council.

Spring Rally: Jason & Heather Ahrendt & Brian & Stacey Jans are all ready to put on the Spring Rally on this Sunday April the 29^th, meet at 12:00 noon for hot dogs and beverages at Billion Southtown. The driver’s meeting will be at 12:45 with start time at 1:00. Bring paper, pens, stop watches and lots of patience! When finished we will have a meal at someplace that is available at that time. Right Jason?

The next Board Meeting will in June at CJ Callaway’s.

The next general meeting will be Wednesday, May 30th, at CJ Callaway’s.

It’s great to have driving season here again, and our kick-off driving event is coming soon – the Spring Rally. All SFCC members should be at Billion Southtown at noon Sunday April 29 to go for a drive to who-knows-where. It’s always lots of fun. Also be sure to spread the word about the SFCC Spring Car Show coming up in June.

Before all that – this Saturday at 9:30 am we have Hi-way cleanup where the SFCC cleans 2 miles of ditches south of town on Minnesota Ave. Come and get your exercise and keep what you find! The Black Hills Corvette Classic planning is well underway – we need volunteers so get ready to help out. It’s our only fundraiser of the year and without it we couldn’t run the club like we do.

GM is coming out with a new color for 2013, the last year of the C6, Night Race Blue. This will be the fifth blue for the C6 – we already had LeMans Blue, Jetstream Blue, Supersonic Blue, and Carlisle Blue. Night Race Blue is quite a bit darker. See below – Courtesy Kerbeck Corvette.

Corvette Club Spring Rally

Club members are invited to spend a Sunday afternoon with us April 29^th for the 2012 Spring Rally. We will start at Billion Southtown at 1pm, but come check out their new showroom and enjoy lunch at 12pm. Plan on spending the afternoon enjoying your car and camaraderie with your navigator/driver! Make sure to have a full tank of gas, a stopwatch, a clipboard, and something to write with. Plan on some new twists to the event for 2012!! The Club will buy you dinner at the conclusion of the rally…. assuming you find the end point!!

5th Annual Garage Tour by Mike Skiles

If you missed the 5th Annual Garage Tour you missed a great opportunity to socialize with fellow SFCC members and the opportunity to enjoy the car hobby. Mike Schulte of Executive Touch toured 30+ SFCC members and guests through their collection of primarily Italian and British cars with American power trains and then through their restoration shop. Everyone was impressed by these rare cars and the history behind them in addition to the amount of restoration work they do.

The weather was perfect as the caravan of Vettes traveled to Brandon for out next stop at Bowman’s Bombers. Kevin was called out of town so was unable to be there to share his knowledge of the street rod building business he runs, but everyone was impressed with the amount of equipment and the high quality builds in progress in his shop.

Our last stop and pizza party was at Larry Olson’s shop , the Ritz II. Larry is a member of the SFCC and we thank Larry and Carol for hosting the tour and pizza party in every man’s “dream garage”.

Come to the events center (west side) and a little early, introduce yourself so we can introduce you the the SFCC.

Upcoming Events

Larchwood IA. is hosting two car events this summer and friends from there asked me to invite you to either or both of these events.

May 19–Poker Run…Sign up at the B&B in Larchwood at noon. Poker Run stops at Rowena, Valley Springs, Hills, Beaver Creek, Lester and ends at Sports Center in Larchwood. Try a steak dinner at the Main Street after your last stop.

July 13&14–Car Show/Burnouts

Cruise Night and Burnouts on July 13 …6-9 p.m.

Car Show on July 14 –registration ($15.) 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Show 1-3 p.m. Trophies for 25 classes. Cash drawings every hour.

Sioux Falls Corvette Club Hi-way Clean-up

DON’T MISS OUT!

The first Hi-way Clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012. We will meet at Dareo’s Pizza in the HyVee parking lot on South Minnesota Avenue at 9:30 a.m. After a leisurely walk all participants are invited back to Dareo’s for pizza and refreshments.

Remember, there will only be two opportunities to participate this year. So mark your calendars and decide to volunteer. You don’t want to miss this event.
